Does Amex Platinum Card Streaming Subscription credit work for Vudu or FandangoNow purchases? No

May 31, 2020

While Amex did not list Vudu nor FandangoNow on their list of eligible streaming subscription services, I need to test whether it does or not.

If you are overloaded on iTunes Credit and/or Amazon Gift Card balance, you won’t be able to spend this streaming credit without first spending down those balances.

Google Play is the only source I am aware of where you can buy movies and can specifically toggle force paying with card (Amazon does for regular purchases but not for Kindle, including if you try the Gift Kindle Book into Amazon Credit trick)

  • Discount: Amex is offering a $20 monthly credit for specific US streaming subscriptions. Unfortunately It doesn’t work here
  • Coupon: Vudu offers a $2 Last Chance Stream credit
  • Cashback: Topcashback seems to credit the amount after any discounts or gift cards are applied to the price
  • Payment: Amex Personal Platinum Card, Vudu $2 Streaming Credit, FandangoNow Gift Card

Estimated Total Vudu: $4.99 – 2.00 (Last Chance Streaming Credit) + $0.27 (Tax) = $3.26

Estimated Total FandangoNow: $5.00 – 0.59 (assuming 15% savings on Fandango Now Gift Card 3.92) – 0.04 (4% Topcashback on price discounting gift card) = $4.37

What was the saying? Galaxy Quest is not a Star Trek movie; Galaxy Quest is the best Star Trek movie

Do test buys before a major purchase
